How does a home solar system work?
A solar array installed on your roof is very simple. The silicone cells in the panel absorb light, this is turned into electricity in a DC (direct current) form. The generated electricity is fed into an inverter which converts the electricity into an AC (alternating current) form which is what we use in our homes. The electricity is fed to the household appliances that are in use. Any energy generated and not required by the home appliances is stored in a battery, this stored energy can be drawn down on demand.
The system allows for overnight cheaper energy to be stored in the battery and used when required at up to a third of the cost during the peak times. Any energy produced when your consumption is below requirements and your battery is full can be sent back to the grid which you will be paid for.
